Finca El Origen Gtan Reserva Malbec 2007
Last year at this same time we featured the 2007 vintage of this same wine, it again was one of the most popular reorder items of the year. This quote is from last year and remains accurate. “When the Gran Reserva Malbec arrived, of course there was great interest in tasting it. WOW it is fantastic! The bottle alone tells how serious they are about this wine, a bottle like this is usually reserved for $100 cult wines from boutique producers.”
For the production of this great wine, Finca el Origen owns exceptional vineyards in the Uco Valley in Fundo La Esperanza at the foot of the snow-capped Andes Mountains, over 3,000 ft. above sea level. The landscape is impressive with glaciers atop high mountain peaks which feed the rivers and streams below. The Uco Valley sub appellation is one of the most promising wine regions within the Mendoza Province. The La Esperanza vineyard provides 100% of the fruit for this special wine. The low fertility soil is very permeable and well-drained. The climate is temperate despite the great day- night temperature differentials due to the altitude. The vineyard is naturally healthy thanks to the warm, dry breezes that blow throughout the spring and summer growth cycles.

This Gran Reserva has exceptional bright red color with a nice touch of violet, it stands out for its intense and complex aromatic expression. Sweet aromas of berries and plum jam evoke great expectations without hiding the soft spice notes. On the palate it is very elegent and concentrated with round tannins and great structure. The ripe fruit balances perfectly with the toasty notes delivered by ageing in French oak for 15 months. Its finish is long and pleasant. This is a small-production wine from a single vineyard. This is the 2008 vintage and is just released now it is obviously a little on the youthful side, but will reward those with patience. It is hard to say how long this wonderful wine will be avaiable, if you want it for the holidays (It makes an impressive gift) please order asap..
