Domino De Teres BembiBre
Dominio De Tares was founded by a group of young visionaries at the turn of the millennium. They recognized the potential of the indigenous Mencía grape that flourishes is the region of Bierzo. The winery is located in San Roman de Bembibre, in the Bierzo Alto (Upper Bierzo), in the northwestern part of the León province, bordering Galicia. The region itself received D.O. status in 1989. The Mencía vines range in age from 40 to 100 years.
Planted on the southern facing slopes of the Bierzo region in northwestern Spain, these bush vines were planted 85 years ago using the gobelet training system with a density of 3000 vines/hectare. The soil is made up of decomposed gravel and slate. Although the vineyards are not certified organic, Dominio de Tares does all it can to respect the environment in its viticultural practices. De Tares also produces a small amount of white wine from a 20 year old vineyard of Godello. The vineyards are worked by hand and they do not use herbicides. Yields are kept low to optimize the quality of the wines.
An extremely characteristic Mencia with all the complexity and elegance this can entail. Impressive red cherry color with a veil of violet shades on the rim. Powerful nose of red fruit (raspberry and cherry) and an assertive ripe plum along with floral notes, such as roses and violets, mixed with fallen leaves, tobacco and sandalwood fragrances. Very well structured, impeccable balance with a glyceric texture, full bodied, plush and elegant. Rich and very long finish with excellent persistence together with an excellent acidity, black fruit and balsamic fragrances. Lingering aftertaste of toasted notes (cocoa) and mint together with ripe plum and exotic spices.
Critical acclaim: Parker 92- This Spanish red wine displays the complexity and elegance of the Mencia grape variety. Cherry red colored with a violet hue. In the nose very intense fruity aromas (raspberry and cherry) and strong black plum, along with flowers (roses and violets), green leaves, tobacco and scented wood. In the mouth it shows a good structure with an oily mud-palate, soft and elegant. Wide and very long finish, with a good persistence and an excellent acidity.
"Opaque ruby. Intense, mineral-accented aromas of candied red berries, cherry and cola, along with floral and Asian spice nuances. Sweet and penetrating, offering deep black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a hint of candied licorice. Sappy and focused on the finish, which features notes of vanilla and cherry pit." 91 Points
